John JAMES (1982 - 87 ):
Johnny was appointed manager for the 1982-83 season. He soon had to turn out himself incredibly having good games as sweeper. He was like a little barrel
running about. He was the barman at the Clubhouse and consequently was always there for meeting etc. He took over fully (with exception of secretary) and ran the Club until we
had to vacate the Beechams Clubhouse. He did do lots for the Club (it seemed) but in reality it was his girlfried Sue George that did it all. When we moved his "dedication" to the
Club vanished completely - along with any Club funds that may have been left. I am not accusing him of
anything, but we never had any money in the Club. He knew nothing about football and that shows how desperate we were in those days.
The Club began to move forward after his departure.
Matty JOHNSTONE (1994 - 96 ):
Matty was a nippy wide player and showed promise in his first few games. However,
his unreliability did not aid his push for a regular place in the B Team. Having a dodgey knee did not help matters either.
Adam JONES (1982 - 83 ):
Adam filled in as a junior player when we were short and in those days we were often lacking bodies.
Showed promise at 13 and nearly scored in one game. Later in 1992 he won a Division 6
Championship medal with Marques Utd. One that got away....
Dave JONES (1980 - 85 ):
Adam's Dad, was famous for being a bit "mutt and jeff" - deaf. Deaf Dave he was called as a consequence.
Fairly fit for his age, he had a good shot and was excellent at crossing the ball.
However, his irritating voice made worse by his vocal disorder was enough to drive you to
derision. He brought Lou Vorasso to us in 1985 - his parting gift to the Club.
Famous for his explanation for clearing the ball off for a corner when it was easier to
put it out for a throw, ("It wos da vind") he said - pinch your nose while saying it to get the effect.
Jonesy is etched in the Club's history for all time as the player who scored our first goal.
Martin JONES (1984 - 87 ):
No relation to the above Jones, so no need to keep up with them. "Then Jones Boy" as he was know was not strongly build but did he crunch into tackles. It used to make you shudder as he shut up shop in the middle of midfield. Scored 2 goals and with many women.
