Sammy CARRINGTON (1983-1994)
Likable "Geordie" wannabe actually from Gateshead played in every position on the pitch and in the pub. He even managed to get Top Goalscorer with 11 in season 1985-86. Later he settled at full back, equally effective on both flanks. Always likely to score at dead ball situations. Sammy still turns up for a quick couple at Club functions but only knows a couple of faces from the old days.
Simon CLARKE(1987-89)
"Simple Simon" really was a bit simple. Some would say he was crazy and they would not be far wrong. He drank like a fish and worked as a Highways Inspector for the council. Truly when I say that he had NO ability, I really mean it. However he was a strapping lad and really looked the part, until the game kicked off that is. He was so awkward and unco-ordinated it was laughable and most of us had to dig deep to concetrate on the game as we laughed so much. He was once asked to mark a player very tightly - "Don't leave his side" he was instructed. This he did to the letter. The feller went to take a corner and complained to the ref' cos' Simon was there right next to him. "Ref, 10 yaeds he bellowed". Next we had a penalty against us, there he was again about to tackle as the kick was about to be taken. Believe me you had to see it, we've laughed about it for years.
Steve CLAYTON (1987-)
"Sinead" is one of the long standing servants of the club and signed as a left back with aspirations of playing further forward. This he did later where he proved very effective, chipping in with goals from midfield. When running, Steve gives the impression of someone totally knackered but he tells us he isn't. Skillfull on the ball and great in the tackle he is distinctive on the pitch by his polished dome. He is always prepared to share his shampoo in the showers afer a game or training. Steve kindly took over the Player/A Team Manager's role after John Crisell resigned in October 1998.
Paul COLLINS (1993-2000)
"Porky" he was known as and sometimes "Cinders" because he was always late for the ball. He gradually improved as a goalkeeper and even took the 1998-99 A Team Manager's Award for his efforts.
However, that was after a career threatening injury in an A Team game in 1994 when he fractured his clavicle and scapula, (collar bone and shoulder blade). He kept goal for the B's unsuccessfull Cup Final in 1998. Injury caught up with him again in 1999 when he broke his nose, then he suffered cracked ribs in a comeback game in 2000-01 season and has not played since.
John CRISELL (1994 - )
"Criss" made his debut in the 2-1 B Team league win against Apollo. Solid centre half with good feet, he also turned out to be a useful 'keeper. He scored his 1st goal in the 6-2 thrashing of Ashton Gate in the Brigg Cuup in his 4th game. John moved up to the A's and scored in his 1st game for them Vs Aquarius, alas we lost 1-5.
He took over as A Team player/manager in 1997 and led them to the cup final in 1998, losing narrowly to a goal 2 minutes before time against Turf Moor. His resignation in September 1999 led to a new direction for the Club, when an EGM was called and a decision was made to sling out the disruptive elements. John really cares about the Club and can always be seen at our functions dancing the night away, in fact he does'nt stop.....
Takes the penalties and to my knowledge has not missed one yet.
John CROWHURST (2000 - )
John has yet to be given a nickname, but it shouldn't be long now. He is another one of the youngsters signed on under TD's revolution at the Club and can be found between the sticks in the B Team. He has great ability as a shot stopper and needs to develop other areas of the game. Gives his Manager many scares during the game when he fails to pick the ball up when he should. However he is only young and will only get better. Played outfield in one game and scored a goal.
